I'm not sure what to make of the Murray incident. It is unclear whether McNamee thought Clemens was using at the time or if he was worried that the residuals of past use were still in his system. If he thought Clemens was using in 2004, then this would contradict his testimony in the Mitchell Report.

"I find it odd that Clemens would go to others for steroids when McNamee had already allegedly helped him use them."

Correct me if I'm wrong, but didn't mcnamee recently claim that he suspected clemens may still have been on steroids during the 04 season? wasn't he worried that he may test positive?

This could all mean nothing, but from the looks of what mcnamee claims to have told clemens agent murray, he believed clemens was still in fact using ped's when he already stopped injecting clemens himself.

J.C., thanks for the clarification. I actually thought your Clemens-McNamee article was well done, and should've clarified a little better in the short space available in my own piece. Basically my beef isn't at all with your post as it is with a lack of data out there on how PEDs affect baseball players' performance in general. Of course, given the near impossibility of conducting a meaningful long-term study using real, live players, both users and non-users, it's mostly tilting at windmills on my part.

Glad you like the blog name Cybermetrics. But it seems that term already has another, well established meaning. It seems to be the quantitative study of something like communication on the internet. I first tried to have cybermetrics in my blog address but I was surprised to learn it was already taken. So I dropped the s.

With Clemens, my little study just does not seem to be conclusive one way or another. He has done better from 40-44 than he did from 35-39. But so far I don't think it sticks out enough, not like Bonds seems to stick out to me in his late thirties.
