Why not? Here’s a list of players with batting averages over .280 and OPS+ under 100.

    Yadier Molina and Jason Kendall should both get a big pass for being above average at their position (Park Factors Excluded).

    Catchers are a group at .266/.333/.396 for the season, for an OPS of .729.

    OPS+ is a statistic that has its flaws in situations like this. Stating that a player is unproductive while producing better than average at their position seems off to me.
