So, You Think the Braves Are Going to Trade Jeff Francoeur?

Think again.

You read that right. “Jeff Francoeur and the Braves take on Alfonso Soriano and the Chicago Cubs” on August 12, 2008. That’s a right fielder with a .633 OPS versus a six-time All-Star.

    Did Chipper quit?
They have one of the best switch-hitters to ever play the game, who could be in the HoF, at 3b and they promote the game with a guy who should be in the minors. Nice. Great job Atlanta Braves. This would be like promoting Chuck James when Smoltz is still on the active roster.

  2. Kyle S says:

Actually, I think the reason they won’t trade Francoeur is because no one else wants him. *sigh*

I was arguing with my dad about how much he’ll get in arbitration this year. For fun, do you mind projecting his 2009 salary using your model? I’d be interested to see who’s right.

  3. Ken Houghton says:

Take the projection, add the revenues from Gwinnett taxpayers, and multiple by two.

But why would you assume Francoeur would prefer arbitration? The  Braves’s offer will be higher than his production value.

  4. David says:

The Yanks demoted Melky Cabrera to AAA today.  Let’s see if he’s there longer than a weekend.

    i am a mets fan.
but watch francoeur, play like he did last season, next season. that was pretty good.

Actually on the Braves’ last road trip, the D’back announcers were talking about Jeff and how they talk to scouts who say that even with his horrible season, that there wouldn’t be a team that wouldn’t want him on their roster.

I think that tells us that we shouldn’t have a knee-jerk, emotional response to his season and do something we’ll regret in the future because we wanted to punish him for having a bad season.
