From a competitive standpoint (i.e., the "sanctity" of records), there isn't much difference between taking steroids and embarking on a training regimen using technology that was unavailable to past generations. Roger Maris obviously didn't have access to videos allowing him to breakdown his swing; plus, most ballplayers didn't make enough money to spend their offseasons training like the players today do. Current and future players will always have advantages of one sort or another that past players did not have.
