1. All of the Cubs starting pitchers — or projected starters as of my writing — had FIPs below 4 last year. This would at least seem to suggest that their pitching staff is poised to be one of the best in the NL central — admittedly not saying much.

2. The team’s utter mismanagement of Carlos Zambrano last year will not repeat itself in 2011.

3. Their biggest bat, Aramis Ramirez was injured for much of the year — even when he wasn’t on the DL.

4. The middle of the line-up for the Cubs will feature Aramis Ramirez, Carlos Pena, and Geovany Soto. They also have Tyler Colvin and Starlin Castro coming back from their promising rookie seasons.

In short, I am not convinced that the Cubs will win the NL central, but they do have a good enough roster to compete, especially with the addition of Pena.
